England's rookie pace bowler Matthew Hoggard bagged the prized scalp of Indian Test bat Rahul Dravid as Kent and Yorkshire matched each other blow for blow on day two of this evenly contested championship game in Canterbury.
For the second day running bad light stopped play with just under eight overs remaining with Kent on 194 for four in reply to Yorkshire's first innings of 401.
Dravid, playing in front of his parents sitting in the Kent committee room, appeared to be coasting toward a second championship century of the summer until Hoggard returned for a devastating fourth spell to claim two wickets in 11 balls.
Kent had lost opening bat Rob Key (18) to an ill-judged pull shot and then David Fulton (25), bowled by a Gavin Hamilton leg-cutter, before Dravid teamed up with Ed Smith to add 117 in 46 overs.
Dravid posted his seventh championship half-century of the summer from 112 balls and with eight fours and appeared in little trouble until Hoggard, the recent winner of an indoor pace bowling challenge, trapped him leg before for 72.
Smith, who had only scored 322 championship runs coming into this match, edged to within four of his second championship 50 when he too fell to the 23-year-old England hopeful.
Beaten for pace and playing from the crease, Smith nicked a full-length delivery to Anthony McGrath at first slip leaving Matthew Walker (9) and Mark Ealham (4) to see Kent through to stumps.
The day started with Yorkshire reaching their fifth batting bonus point courtesy of a patient 28 from last man out Gavin Hamilton.
Resuming on 366, the white rose county lost their last three wickets for 35 runs with David Masters claiming three for 74, Matthew Fleming four for 77 and Martin Saggers - today named as the PPP healthcare player of the month for August after claiming 27 wickets in the month - who added two for 78 to his tally.
