Junaid gets the yorker wrong and bowls a low full toss. Amad drills it past the diving mid-on fielder to take the single and pumps the air in delight. What a match
Zalmi vs United, 12th Match at Sharjah, Feb 18 2017 - Ball by Ball Commentary
United won by 5 wickets (with 0 balls remaining)
What a Super Saturday this has been! Two contrasting games - one where over 400 runs were scored and 200 was chased down and the other a low-scoring thriller. But the binding factor was that they were both spectacular matches, where the win had to be really earned. Can Zalmi bounce back from this defeat when they take on Karachi Kings tomorrow? Do join us to find out. That's it for now. Thank you for joining us.
Misbah-ul-Haq: Win is a win. These sort of games always help you understand how to come out of pressure situations. Three wins under the belt and all three wins have come like that which is good for the team. In Sharjah, batting under lights, especially with the new ball which swings and zips, it comes down to the fast bowlers doing well and credit to the fast bowlers of both teams for doing well. I think both teams have good fast bowling and that's why it was such a close game. It was a pressure situation but you always back your players. It was the first time he was walking out to such a pressure situation but he did well.
Darren Sammy We believe that we could have won the game. It was a good game but our fielding lapses cost us. We looked to get 200 but we lost wickets upfront and they kept on taking wickets just like when they batted, we kept on taking wickets as well. All in all a very good match, we will take the positives and look to come back stronger. I just told him bowl his best ball whether it was the yorker or the bouncer, we had the field up.
Sami: I have been brought up on these kind of wickets, so I have some experience of bowling on these kind of surfaces. And I have paid some attention to fitness which has helped me.
Mohammad Sami is the Man of the match for his 3 for 26.
And Dwayne Smith gets the green Hanif Mohammad cap for going to the top of the run carts. Smith also receives an award for the maximum number of sixes hit.
Mohammad Sami receives the maroon cap for becoming the highest wicket-taker.
Ramiz Raja with the post-match presentations.
11.40pm Relief for Islamabad's players but what a fightback from Peshawar. They put up what had seemed like a meagre 136 for 9 and who would have thought this would go down to the last ball on what was thought to be a belter of a pitch? You wonder where this match was lost, or won. Was it that nine-ball 17th over from Junaid? Could it have been the double let-off in the Afridi over with Hasan Ali first dropping Smith before a caught-behind was denied by the umpire? Or could it have been the missed run out by Junaid? Peshawar had their chances but did not take them. But the very fact that they brought it this far was testament to the fight shown by them. Dwayne Smith looked so scratchy to start off but how he pulled himself together to take the team over the line! Not to forget Shane Watson who walked out with his team precariously placed and ably partnered Smith.
Amad Butt walks out with one needed off one. Sammy brings the field in and it is a yellow circle on the field
Harris: "Regardless of what happens, Sammy lost the trickhere. Junaid is brilliant death bowler, I feel Sammy asked him to Bowl a certain line, one Junaid wasn't comfortable with which might have cost them the game."
there is a review for a run out and Watson is short of his ground. He is gone and the crowd has found its voice again. Islamabad looking to finish it off with one ball to spare but Kamran Akmal gathers the ball and whips the bails off to make sure that does not happen. Worked it with a flat bat to long-on and came charging back for the second
Junaid stops in his tracks suspecting Smith to be backing up too far. Has to reliad
slower ball on leg stump, does not bounce and hits Watson on the pad
Watson hammers this to sweeper cover and Smith comes charging back for the second. The throw comes on at the bowler's end and Junaid does not collect the ball. Had he gathered it, the batsman would have been out by a mile
bangs it in from around the wicket and Smith tries to duck but wears it on the elbow as the ball runs away into the leg side
fuller ball on the stumps, turned away to midwicket for a single. Singles will do it for Islamabad. Five off five now
Sammy persists with Junaid Khan. Six needed off six
low full toss, drilled through the covers region
yorker outside off, very nicely bowled, gets an outside edge that dos not carry to the keeper
fuller ball, pushed back to the bowler and Watson is outside the crease, looking for a run. Hasan throws and misses
Aatif: "Sammy as a captain not only not allowing Jordan to play plus under bowling Hafeez."
low full toss outside off, pushed off the front foot to long-off
opens the bat face and steers it wide of backward point
Darren Sammy's six foot five frame can't get to that at the long-off boundary. Great effort as he leaps up and gets a fingertip to it but even he could not get to it as the ball clips the fingers and sails over the boundary. Full and in the slot and it is hammered over mid-off
Hasan comes on with 16 needed off 12. Surely, the batting team ahead at this moment. Can they snuff out Smith? Or Watson. Or, even better, both.
short of a length outside off, slaps with a flat bat to the extra cover region and cover runs across and slides to field it. Well-done
slower ball, short of a length, rolls his fingers over that one and Smith is through with the pull shot early
fuller ball, hammered to extra cover
Free hit coming up..
bowls a yorker and the batsman cannot make contact as he tries to jam the bat down. But he has overstepped. That foot is a mile outside the crease
Square leg coming inside the circle. Short ball coming up?
Ali: "for the second time in this edition of PSL. Junaid khan has cost a match to Zalmi against Islamabad United. Recap of First match between Zalmi and United. junaid should be dropped. "
fuller ball, jams the bat down and runs it down to long-off
slower ball bouncer, Smith gets under it and the umpire thinks the height is fine there
yorker on leg stump, tries to flick but is late in bringing the bat down and wears it on the pad
Wahab comes on with 20 needed off 18
that's a humongous hit. That one lands on the roof. Watson has laid into a pull shot. Short ball from over the stumps and sits up nicely. Watson was probably expecting a short ball to be around the corner after all the attempted yorkers gone wrong. That's a mighty pull shot, played with authority. On the roof and will stay there
