Matthew Hayden grabbed the rare chance to attack his Australian team-mates with 103 not out as Queensland reached 2 for 192 against New South Wales. Facing a bowling line-up that boasted Brett Lee, Stuart Clark, Nathan Bracken and Stuart MacGill, Hayden had just enough time to reach triple-figures on a rain-interrupted day at the SCG.
Clinton Perren and Hayden added 129 for the second wicket before Perren fell for 49, sending a return catch to MacGill. Ryan Broad could not continue his good form and edged Bracken behind for 6 in the sixth over after Jimmy Maher chose to bat.
But Hayden's class was enough to put Queensland on top - he reached his century from 159 deliveries including 11 fours. Bracken escaped most of the damage, finishing with 1 for 21 from 13 overs, but Lee and Clark each failed to break through. At the close of a day that only had time for 62 overs, Maher was on 22 with Hayden.
