Peter Handscomb scored his fourth first-class century to lead a strong batting effort, as Victoria racked up 334 for 5 on the opening day of their Shield game against Tasmania in Alice Springs.
After opting to bat, Victoria lost Rob Quiney off the third ball of the innings but they were well served by fifties from Chris Rogers (71), Marcus Stoinis (51) and Matthew Wade (57*).
Rogers and Stoinis then combined well in a 127-run partnership, but Tasmania might have scented hope when they were dismissed in quick succession after lunch.
It was then that Handscomb took charge and went onto make 104, before he was bowled by Andrew Fekete, two overs before stumps. Handscomb struck 15 fours and added 142 with Wade, who remained unbeaten at the end of the day.
