An amazing contest in the end: Samson and co smashed 63 off the last five overs, but still fell nine short. Samson played brilliantly for a career-best 86* off 63 balls, an innings which has perhaps taken a long time to come. But Miller and Klaasen's onslaught proved a bit too much for India, as South Africa went 1-0 up in the series. Thanks for your company today in this shortened match, as Chandan, Ashish and I, Himanshu, bid you goodbye!

Heinrich Klaasen is the Player of the Match for 74*: "Not easy at all [when he went in to bat]. Ball was moving around, and just when I went in, it was spinning. I don't know why [the good record against India]!"

Here comes Temba Bavuma, the winning captain: "A bit tight there at the end with Sanju hitting like that. Wasn't much grass. The opening guys did knuckle down... David and Klaasen came in... Bowling was good upfront. First 15 overs was a lot of pressure. At the end of the day, we were able to stay calm under pressure"

Shikhar Dhawan will speak first: "Very proud of the way the boys played. It's tremendous the way Shreyas, Samson and Shardul played. I thought 250 was too many runs, because the wicket had turn and seam. Even fielding-wise we leaked a few runs; but it'll be a good experience and learning for the young boys"

Hang around for the presentations. Who will be your Player of the Match: Miller for 75*, Klaasen for 74* or Maharaj for bowling very economically?

Stof: "Credit to Ind, so much depth and some guys put their hands up in a tough chase. As for SA, persisting with Shamsi while Makram was available as well as bowling short "

Biju: "39th over.. Sanju Samson didnt faced a single Ball. That will be a game changer.. better luck next time Samson"

Rabada - and the new ball - set up South Africa's defence; India were 51 for 4 in the 18th over, and it was always going to be a massive climb from there. But Maharaj conceding only 23 off eight overs - there was sharp turn and bounce available for him - negated all of Iyer and Samson's efforts in the middle overs. Very crucial ten points for South Africa, as they dream of direct qualification for next year's World Cup.

10.41pm It was probably a matter of two balls in this game, or two boundaries, or even three dropped catches. Samson was pretty much the only man fighting for India, with Iyer and Thakur falling right when India would have hated most. But it was a terrific fight from a man who has either struggled to get into India's XI or couldn't convert his chances.

Shamsi to Samson, 1 run

flicked to deep midwicket, and South Africa win by 9 runs! Shortish ball and slower on middle, and chipped after a step down

4
Shamsi to Samson, FOUR runs

crunched down the pitch! Between the stumps and the non-striker. Skipped down and converted it into a low full toss, and drilled that for four

Shamsi to Samson, no run

slog sweeps this full ball on middle, but right to deep square leg. That leaves India with 15 to get off two, and South Africa have won this almost

39.3
4
Shamsi to Samson, FOUR runs

this time Shamsi bowls full... but it is four again! This was tossed up full on middle, as Samson was deep in the crease and got his front leg out of the way to go down the ground

19 off 4

39.2
4
Shamsi to Samson, FOUR runs

four between deep backward square and deep midwicket! Why is Shamsi bowling short repeatedly? He bangs it in on middle and off, and Samson is ready to pull that again

39.1
6
Shamsi to Samson, SIX runs

six over deep midwicket! Shamsi went short on middle and leg, and Samson got his front leg out of the way to fling his bat for the maximum

he is taken by Bavuma at extra cover It is a no-ball! Back of a length on off, and Bishnoi swung blindly to send that lobbing to extra cover again

Bishnoi is the next man

Rabada to Avesh Khan, OUT

nabbed at extra cover! Avesh sent that skying, and Bavuma barely had to move. Good length ball from Rabada just outside off, as it angled away. Avesh got his front leg out of the way and went flinging, but with no timing and placement

Hat-trick ball. Avesh on strike

Ngidi to Kuldeep, OUT

very good catch by Bavuma back-pedalling from extra cover! He kept his eyes on the ball while moving back, and tumbled on taking it over his head. Ngidi on a hat-trick! He bowled a slower ball on a full length outside off, as Kuldeep opened the bat face and went lofting

Kuldeep Yadav c Bavuma b Ngidi 0 (1b 0x4 0x6 3m) SR: 0

Kuldeep is in at No. 8, highlighting India's lack of depth. Ngidi around the wicket.

37.3
W
Ngidi to Thakur, OUT

well taken by Maharaj at mid-off! Thakur departs, as Maharaj goes to his left and goes low to grab that. India lose the momentum just when it seemed to be going their way. It was a full ball outside off, as he was deep in the crease and opened the bat face to try and slice that. But that didn't come off the middle, and ended up in the fielder's hands

Shardul Thakur c Maharaj b Ngidi 33 (31b 5x4 0x6 55m) SR: 106.45

Ngidi to Samson, 1 run

lofted off the inside half of the bat to long-on. That was back of a length outside off, as Samson backed away and went hard at that
