Done for pace. It's into the pitch and just down leg stump. Turner made room on the last second but was hurried, and hence, cramped for room. Tried to drive through the line off the back foot. Misses
Originals vs Spirit, 6th Match at Manchester, Men's Hundred, Aug 05 2023 - Ball by Ball Commentary
The women's game between Birmingham Phoenix and Trent Rockets was washed out without a ball being bowled. Here's hoping that the men's game will turn out better.
4:56pm: Not too soon after that, the game has been abandoned. This is the third washout of the day which is a shame. The game was shaping up well with Buttler smacking 62, Holden and Turner chipping in with bat before Bopara broke momentum. But with the wet outfield, coming back on was a tall ask. In the end, it was too much.
James: "Any update?" Nope. At 4:53pm local, only one thing is certain - time is running out quickly.
The worry with this stoppage, the second of the match so far, is that balls are likely to reduce. So there is the possibility of the break signalling the end of the innings. Let's hope things change and action resumes quickly.
Ravi Bopara says it's very wet. The wicket's okay but the outfield being wet is making the ball slip. He thinks it's a good score. Says it's a good pitch and they've played well. (On the knuckle ball to Buttler) Says it took two years to practice. That the ball isn't held properly but he gained confidence from bowlers and baseball pitchers doing it. Says he didn't even factor in Buttler's form and how well he was hitting when he got him out. He focused on bowling in the right areas. Says clouds are building up on the back, and that he's not sure how much the outfield will take.
4:24pm: There are discussions between Lawrence and the umpire. The bowler, Thompson, and fielders walk around too. They're told to keep going. A few seconds later, however, they will walk off. Hover cover back on.
Wade slides across and stops the ball. Puts his hands up to show he's unhappy about the grass being wet. The ball was dug in outside off and was slapped to the left of deep point
Turner plants the ball into the wet grass after making room by flicking the back-of-length ball. It goes towards short fine leg, fielders converge. Man behind the stumps whips off the bails with his hands, ball had popped out. So they're safe
There's some drizzle and the ball's getting slippery. They'll stay out for now
Length on middle, worked to deep midwicket. They want two but Mitchell is in quickly
Short ball over off at 83kph zips through. It's skiddy and beats Overton's attempted flapping blade, aiming to take the ball over midwicket
Ball change. Mel Jones has a cheeky dig about the ball change at the Oval in the Ashes. There are new developments from there. Check it out
Down leg, Turner slides his feet across as he sweeps. The ball goes off the glove. Into the grass en route to short fine leg
Chopped to the right of backward point. Turner first made room before going across, saw the length ball offered some width and slapped it hard. Fielder ran across and dove but it raced past him
Full on leg, clipped to long-on
Appeal for stumping is sent upstairs. Close call for caught behind too. Overton tried to push it towards mid-off. The bat is angled and Ultra-Edge shows there was no contact made despite the ball being very close. He doesn't lift his toes as the keeper takes the ball and dislodges the bails. All good - he's safe.
Switches his stance, twirls across and plinks a reverse sweep to short third. Throw to the keeper is wide to the left and is missed. Goes to long-on and they take an extra run
Slices to backward point and Bopara's turning this game on its head! Short ball from around the wicket, it's just outside off. Walter tries dragging it across with a powerful pull. The top edge balloons right up and Wade takes a dolly to his right.
Full ball is worked to long-on
Into the pitch. Comes to around waist-height. Pulled behind square, Wade runs across to his right to stop it. That was a very short ball, 69mph which is faster.
Free hit
Another beamer, this time from Bopara. The knuckle ball at 58mph came around head-height. Walter swivelled away and got eyes off it on the last second but did well to bunt it behind square
Very low full toss on leg, helped to long leg. Pace: 57mph
Makes room. Drives the full ball outside off to the right of deep cover point
Bopara rewarded with another set
Knuckle-ball yorker knocks over Buttler. Just 57mph but inches in front of the popping crease. Buttler was in his crease, had to be with the keeper up, and tried to drill it down the ground. Ball came in and went through the block hole to hit middle and off and end Buttler's 62
Back over
Fullish ball on leg is clipped to deep midwicket. Great set so far
Around. Bopara runs in while hiding the ball.
Lawrence dives to the right at cover to stop it this time. Length outside off, driven off the back foot

Beaten on the flick, hits him high on the pad. Length ball was angling in down leg. Pace: 62mph
Buttler has strike and will face Ravi Bopara, who'll start his first set, with 30 balls to go in the innings.
