He can! Worrall steps across, gets pinned in front of middle and leg and the umpire's finger goes up! What an outstanding performance from Curran - starting with 51 from 22 then 5 for 16! with a hat-trick in there for good measure! Those are the sixth best figures in the men's Hundred as well. Oval Invincibles win by 30 runs with 5 balls to spare...
Invincibles vs Spirit, 15th Match at London, Men's Hundred, Aug 04 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
5.33pm That's it from us but hop over to the men's Northern Derby between Northern Superchargers and Manchester Originals!
5:30pm Curran also credited Invincibles captain Sam Billings for selflessly retiring himself - a move which he said influenced his assault that led to his 21-ball fifty. Here's Sam Billings to discuss his decision to walk off after struggling to 17 from 22 deliveries.
"I felt I had the best chance against the spin," says Billings. "As soon as the spin went off, against the pace, when we had DF and TC at the back end, it was pretty much made up. At the end of the day it's about trying to maximise those 100 balls. It's just taking a right call for the team at the end of the today."
Another tricky pitch at Lord's? "If you retire yourself out, it's got to be tricky!"
5:26pm You'll never guess who the Meerkat Match Hero is... "To be fair, I've had quite a few battles with Russ over he years!" said Sam Curran on that hat-trick ball. "That mindset of it's either going to be me. Thankfully he edged it! When Russ got out it was a big relief.
On his final spell of 5 wickets in 9 balls for just 2 runs: "The wicket was fractionally slow, probably suited the way our bowling attack shaped up. We knew the deeper we took the game, we'd be in with the shout.
Last ball for Curran... can he get a five-wicket haul?
Wide yorker, Ellis reaches for it and squeezes it down to long on
Full, just outside off stump, hacked away to midwicket with no timing whatsoever
No four from four for Curran - full bunger, bunted out to cover
Five wickets in seven balls for no runs. Comically awful from London Spirit. Dan Worrall is the last batter...
AND CURRAN HAS A HAT-TRICK! Goes full and wide, Russell has to throw the kitchen sink at it and gets a nick through to Billings, who himself is stood at first slip! What an all-round display from Sammy C! And that's four wickets for Curran without conceding a run! Game set and match, folks.
Hat-trick ball for Curran... Russell to face... three men straight here, too; long-on, long-off, and Ferreira in between the two of them
Two wickets and no runs from those five deliveries. Naturally, Curran will continue at the change of ends...
Make that four wickets in the last six balls! Ugly, ugly hack across the line. Curran goes straight, pings middle and off.
Three wickets in the last five balls for London Spirit. 33 needed off 11, with Olly Stone on strike and Russell sitting on his bat at the nonstriker's end...
Full, on middle stump, lifted down the ground... and straight into the hands of Jordan Cox! Full pace, that time, and Dawson had the right idea going straight down the ground, but can only toe it
Pace off, around the wicket again, Dawson cuts with an angled bat but can't beat backward point
Liam Dawson comes out to the middle
Manoj: "Those dot balls from Pepper and Hetmyer is the difference now." Lawrence's dismissal looking worst by the ball...
Chipped straight to Lammonby at deep midwicket! Leg stump half volley, right out of the screws, but the fielder does not have to move a muscle! If he'd tried to hit that for six, he would have got it!
Starts with a slower that Critchley gets himself in a tangle trying to play. He thinks about a single but doesn't realise he's about to stand on the ball and decides to head back. Curran appeals for Obstructing The Field but the umpire isn't interested
Sam Curran into the attack to Matt Critchley, new to the crease
Stumped! Into the pitch, not quite short but too short to charge. Lawrence runs past it, Billings does the rest. A big risk from Spirit's captain doesn't come off. Did he need to do that?
Googly! Quicker, out the front of the hand, pins Russell on the pad. Huge appeal but it's clearly sliding down leg stump. Zampa and Billings confer but decide to let the DRS timer run out
Chucked full and well wide of leg stump, Billings does brilliantly to put his body on the line and wear that to prevent further byes
Short... scythed through backward point! Zampa groans as soon as he lets go of that ball and Russell was sharp to shift his weight and put it away
Flighted, drops onto off stump and launched! Longer side, no problem - clouted into the stands at midwicket
Googly, into the pitch, pushes Russell back, who defends towards mid off
Adam Zampa to continue from the other end
Short, sits up out the front of the hand, slapped to midwicket but with no real timing, allowing long on to field
Full, quicker, Russell follows it after it pitches and turns, well taken by Billings
Darted into the pitch, Lawrence cross-bats it down to long on but wanted to get that squarer to the short side
Zampa entices Russell with a full delivery flighted outside off. Timing all wrong, but a single taken down the ground to long off
Here's Dre Russ... with London Spirit needing two a ball
