how fitting for Kapp to take the final catch to seal Invincibles place in the final! Short and wide, slaps a fierce cut but at catching height to Kapp at cover on the ring, who takes this at rib height. Invincibles have produced a memorably stirring fightback to seal their place in the final at Lord's!
Invincibles vs Phoenix, Eliminator at London, Women's 100, Aug 20 2021 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Invincibles won by 20 runs
5.34 pm Only the slightest of blemishes in the field for Invincibles with one catch put down behind the stumps, but otherwise this was one of the highest-class team catching performances you'll ever see in men's or women's cricket in a high-pressure, low target chase in a knockout stage match.
Match Hero is Tash Farrant for her 4 for 10 and a sensational catch at mid-off: "It means the world. I feel very emotional to be honest trying not to cry. We knew we didn't get enough runs but with our bowling attack we were really confident and so proud of the team. It was an unbelievable effort. The captain said, 'Don't leave anything out on the pitch, give 100%' We've been bowling well all tournament so we knew we could defend that total and luckily it paid off. I just threw my body at it [the catch at mid-off to dismiss Amy Jones]. I knew that we needed something special because they were building a really nice partnership and obviously Amy Jones is a gun batter. So it needed something special and I just sort of held it. I don't really know what happened to be honest. I think we pride ourselves with our fielding. We weren't really happy with how we fielded last game. So we wanted to put that right. All the girls out there did amazing, put our bodies on the line and I'm just so happy for the team. That [partnership between Kapp and Capsey] was absolutely brilliant. Obviously Kapp has got so much experience and then Capsey came in and took on the more attacking role in that and got us to a score we were able to defend so that was a vital partnership. I think we'll take a lot of momentum from this and know that we can win from any position but obviously we're super excited to play at Lord's tomorrow."
That's it from coverage of the Women's Eliminator. Head over to the start of coverage from the men's feed. For Alan Gardner, I'm Peter Della Penna. And don't forget to come back tomorrow for the Women's Hundred Final at Lord's!
full on the stumps, slapped down the ground.
Phoenix dugout looks beyond shellshocked right now. They were flying high 30 minutes or so ago. How the tables have turned.
full on off, slogs this high toward Ismail at long-on, she charges in and settles for the chance taking it crouching on her right knee 10 yards inside the rope.
full on the legs, flicked behind square for one.
Kapp and Farrant both have five left. Farrant will bowl her set first, and Kapp to follow, if the match lasts that long. 22 runs needed off 10 balls, but Phoenix only have two wickets left.
full on fourth stump, slogs this high toward long-on, falls well short of Kapp charging in.
good length ball chipped over wide long-on for a well-run pair.
full and wide, can't slap this away.
another good length ball flicked through the ring.
good length ball flicked away.
Capsey will bowl 10 straight after that caught and bowled as the pressure rises.
Capsey one-ups Farrant and van Niekerk with a sensational return catch! Flighted full on off, Elwiss charges for a firmly struck lofted straight drive, but Capsey climbs a ladder to pluck this high over her head with a stupendous leaping effort to intercept it high above her head. Invincibles are living up to their name with some of the catching this innings.
charges to convert this into a knee high full toss on off and drags it along the ground to long-on.
good length on off stump again, slapped back to Capsey.
full on middle, pushed tentatively back to the bowler.
full and chipped down the ground for one.
Capsey returns for her third set of five.
Stunning turnaround in the field by Invincibles. Phoenix were cruising to the target when Jones and Burns were together for their half-century stand, but the match has turned upside down after they fell off consecutive balls.
slower ball full on off stump, punched conservatively to extra cover.
full on fifth stump, misses a wild heave.
Farrant comes around the wicket now.
slower ball on off at 49 mph, Davies tries to heave over the leg side but is thrown off by the change of pace, skies this over Bryce behind the stumps shuffling to her left towards fine leg and pouches a simple chance. She fluffed one earlier but with the pressure building, the Scottish international holds her nerve to claim this one.
charges and mistimes a full ball off her pads back to Farrant, who fields in her follow-through and underhands direct into the striker's stumps but Davies scampers back in time.
good length ball flicked fine.
Farrant back into the attack.
Dave: "What an enjoyable game this has been. Just when it was getting away from OI their skipper atones for a poor batting performance by striking with the ball." And it's really down to the South African bowling trio in this chase.
what kind of shot was that?! Wong increases the pressure on Phoenix with a rash attempt at a scoop over fine leg, goes too far across her stumps and leaves them exposed while missing the audacious shot attempt as Ismail rips out leg stump halfway up.
