angled bat, down through backward point, Taylor seals a cakewalk!
Spirit vs Brave, 15th Match at London, Women's 100, Aug 01 2021 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Brave won by 7 wickets (with 8 balls remaining)
5.21pm Right, that's your lot. Alan Gardner is all set to launch the men's game shortly. Don't stray too far!
5.17pm Stafanie Taylor sees Brave to their fourth win out of four. They are the form team, with power players in so many areas. London Spirit, however, have issues aplenty. They beat Phoenix in their opening game, but have had no joy since then. Decent cameos from Wyatt and Dunkley, but a target of 94 was never enough - thanks largely to Amanda-Jade Wellington, whose four wickets wrecked the contest, in spite of Tammy Beaumont's loitering, and the small matter of 25 wides!
Amanda-Jade Wellington is the Hero of the Match: "We came back really well to restrict them to under 100 and I couldn't be prouder of the girls. Hopefully I can continue my good form for the team. I'm focussing on consistently performing... Warne, I'm a big fan, who doesn't love Warney. If we keep going the way we are going, hopefully we can make it to the end."
punched off a good length, back at the bowler. The tension mounts...
Freya's back, in a futile cause
an exchange of singles to long-on, scores are level
Bouchier thinks about the glory swipe as she gallops to the pitch, but settles for a clip to leg
firm drive, wide of mid-off and they pinch the single
full length, eased to long-on. Another single
dipping into the toes, flicked to the leg side
another sweep, struck outside the line, not out... but Spirit review. A touch optimistic if you ask me. In fact, there's a spike too on the glove. Nothing doing for that one
low full-toss, can't capitalise
a saunter to the pitch, tapped to the on-side
tossed up, tucked off the toes, behind square. We are nearly done here
on the legs, swept hard, and through the legs of short backward square! Whoops. Another crack in the quality of this contest
Deepti to take it deep
Abhijato: "A meltdown at the back end of the innings is the only way this match can turn from 'slow' to a 'slow burn' ... But I suspect that's as far as my optimism will allow me to go tonight." We'll put this down to experience. Not the most riveting sport of the day!
cracked to long-on, a scythe across the line
flicked in the air, just short of the bowler
big turn on the wide line, but not wide enough
a touch too short, slapped hard to deep cover, where Dean scrambles impressively to cut off the four
probing full length, from round the wicket, deflected to the off side
17 from 25 ought to be a cakewalk. But wickets will change things!
angled bat, on the back foot
Rohit B: "That was such an elegant shot from Bouchier! So pleasing to the eye. " Sumptuous
back of a length, nudged down into the leg side, and Taylor seizes on the misfield
hoicked off the back foot, good power but mid-on sprawls well to intercept
very full length, poked back to the bowler
nudged off the pads
