on a length, slapped to extra cover on the bounce, and Originals seal their first win of the season
Originals vs Fire, 8th Match at Manchester, Women's Hundred, Aug 16 2022 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That's all from us today. Thanks for tuning in, and make sure to hop over to the men's match to follow our live ball-by-ball commentary with both sides chasing their first wins.
Dottin is the Match Hero: "The main thing was to get myself in. We thought we had enough. I love a challenge. I think it's very important for us, having that winning feeling again."
5.40pm: It looked for all money like Welsh Fire would get their season up and running when Matthews and Beaumont were together, but after Ecclestone knocked Matthews' off stump back, Fire couldn't find the middle of the bat. Beaumont struggled badly towards the back end, and finished with a strike rate of just 107 in an attempted chase of 157, and Originals bowled very well at the death. It was Dottin's innings that set things up for them, and a brilliant partnership with Ecclestone at the back end took them to their highest total across both seasons.
Hypocaust: "No boundaries conceded in the last 16 balls by Originals as they closed out the game."
Sundar: "WF has lost just three wickets and yet, they have fallen way short of the target. Poor, this!!!"
full and straight, but can only punch down the ground to long-on
And a twist... Cross didn't keep her foot behind the line. Free hit.
on a length, skewed away to short third. Thick outside edge, flew straight to Threlkeld who couldn't cling onto a tough chance
And now Cross just needs to keep her foot behind the line.
on a length, swung out to deep backward square leg on the bounce
Three balls remaining. Beaumont needs to hit three sixes.
gives herself room, but can't beat mid-off
back of a length, Wilson shuffles across looking to scoop but can't get bat on ball
Captain Cross to close the game out for Manchester. 19 needed off 5 balls.
Superb from Lamb at the back end, and a brilliant call from Cross to back the spinner at the death when the easy option would have been to give Dottin the ball.
brings out the reverse, miscued to short third with no timing
on a length, looks to swing over the leg side but can only miscue back to the bowler. Wilson has to scramble back to the non-striker's
full outside off, dragged down to long-on. Fire dealing in singles when they need boundaries
full and wide outside off, thick outside edge to short third
Three fielders out on the leg side, plus a long-off.
offbreak on a length, worked down to long-on
Beaumont just hasn't kicked on after laying the platform. Big call from Cross: here's Emma Lamb at the death.
on a length, whipped out to midwicket where Dottin throws herself low to her left to cut it off on the rope. Superb fielding and Originals are closing in
shuffles across, can't get the pull past short fine leg
steps outside leg stump, looking to flash through the off side, but picks out extra cover. Campbell throws, but Threlkeld can't whip the bails off in time
Sundar: "So WF has decided to replicate last year, Hayley Matthews and then.... nothing."
back of a length, gives herself room and slaps out to deep cover
on a length, Beaumont gets across to scoop but her timing is off, and it lands safely on the leg side, near the square-leg umpire
Potts returns.
short outside off, slapped out to deep cover
full toss, clubbed over midwicket! Continuned with the around-the-wicket ploy, but this was a juicy full-bunger, put away confidently
Hat-trick ball. Fran Wilson is the new batter. The crowd are getting involved.
straighter than she would have intended, but Sutherland chips straight to midwicket on the edge of the ring! Full, on the stumps. She just needed to flick it a metre either side of the fielder and it was four, but Satterthwaite barely had to move!
Sutherland at No. 4. The required rate is nearly 2 per ball. Interesting ploy here from Dottin, around the wicket with all four boundary-riders on the off side
full toss, dragged to mid-on and Potts has her redemption! Another crucial moment in this game, Potts breathes a sigh of relief after clinging onto this one... Haynes trudges off after a cameo
full outside off, crashed over extra cover. Griffith cuts it off but they squeeze back for two
Cross opts for Dottin's experience. Threlkeld is standing up to the stumps.
36 needed off 20 balls. Manchester still favourites?
