Scorecard and ball-by-ball details
UAE's top three batsmen all raised half-centuries, helping the hosts to a five-wicket victory against Afghanistan in Dubai. Set 249 for the win, UAE began brightly, as the openers Amjad Ali and Andri Berenger shared in a 117-run partnership. Amjad struck 11 fours during his 67, while Berenger's 52 featured five fours. Afghanistan fought their way back into the game with four quick wickets, but the captain Khurram Khan's 53 ensured that UAE got over the line with eight deliveries to spare. Mohammad Nabi was the pick of Afghanistan's bowlers, collecting 2 for 41, while Mirwais Ashraf and Gulbadin Naib snared a wicket apiece.
Afghanistan, opting to bat, had earlier scored 248 for 6 from their 50 overs. Their innings, much like UAE's, was powered by a strong batting effort from the top order. Nawroz Mangal (52) and Afsar Zazai (60) first put up a 59-run partnership for the second wicket, before Zazai combined with Asghar Stanikzai for a fourth-wicket association which yielded 56 runs from 55 balls. Stanikzai slammed four sixes and a four during a 33-ball 46, and Samiullah Shenwari provided another surge down the order, drilling 25 off 17 balls. UAE's bowlers all went at under six an over, with Krishna Karate leading the way with 2 for 37, while Mohammad Naveed, Amjad Javed and Mohammad Tauqir each claimed a scalp.
