Late starts are all too frequent affairs at Bloomfield Sports and Athletic Ground these days. The outfield does not drain well and today's match had to be reduced to 28 overs because of last night's heavy rain. However, the home side were not complaining after an easy victory over Singha CC.
Bloomfield were put into bat by Singha CC but scored a match winning 150 from their allotted overs. In reply, Singha CC were bowled out for a paltry 75 as Kumar Dharmasena picked up a five wicket haul.
Bloomfield had to make do without Sanath Jayasuriya today but this proved to not be a problem as Ruwan Kamarage opened the innings and scored 33 from 49 deliveries. He was well supported by Kumar Dharmasena, 39 from 48 deliveries, and D.S. Perera, who scored a run a ball 24.
Kumar Dharmasena then followed his exploits with the bat to finish off the Singha innings. Gamage dismissed the two openers before the two run outs left Singha on 26 for 4. Dharmasena introduced himself into the attack as the fifth change bowler but wasted no time in finishing off the match. Unusually four of his victims were stumped, a fact that speaks volumes for the quality of the Singha footwork. He finished the innings with 5 wickets for just 14 runs.
