A day of firsts at Colonial Stadium

First player to slip: not a fielder surprisingly, Mark Waugh playing a nice off drive off Roger Telemachus in the 6th over

Lawrie Colliver
17-Aug-2000
First toss won by: Shaun Pollock (South Africa) and he sent Australia into bat
First ball: Shaun Pollock (Bourke Street end) bowled it to Adam Gilchrist who allowed it to pass through to the 'keeper
First run: Gilchrist pushed a Pollock ball wide of mid on for a single to trouble the scorers in the first over of the match
First wicket: Brilliant run out by Jonty Rhodes from backward point - dismissing Adam Gilchrist in the third over
First TV umpire decision: see first wicket
First use of sawdust: In the fourth over on the popping crease at the Bourke Street end, for Roger Telemachus
First boundary: straight drive by Ricky Ponting in the fourth over of the day off Roger Telemachus
First player to slip: not a fielder surprisingly, Mark Waugh playing a nice off drive off Roger Telemachus in the 6th over.
First misfield: at deep backward square leg, Neil McKenzie got out of the way of a beautifully struck pull shot by Ricky Ponting in the 7th over.
First catch: Guess who: Jonty Rhodes. Ricky Ponting attempted a customary flick off the toes off Telemachus, got a leading edge, skied the ball very high towards extra cover where Rhodes took a very good catch.
First ball to go near the roof: see first catch.
First bowling change: Interestingly enough, not until the 13th over. With the score on 3/38 Jacques Kallis took over from skipper Pollock at the Bourke Street end.
First century: Michael Bevan gained a big lead over skipper Steve Waugh but eventually in the 45th over, they were both on 99. Bevan flipped one off his toes to bring up his ton (off 120 balls); seconds later and off the very next ball, Steve Waugh produced his own century from a mere 91 balls
First six: Shane Lee smashed Shaun Pollock over cover in the 49th over to bring up the day's first six and then proceeded to repeat the shot the next ball for the identical result
First stumping: Opening ball of Shane Warne's third over, Gary Kirsten charges at a widish over-spinner, Gilchrist holds onto the ball and completes a good stumping
First time two brothers have bowled in tandem: sadly the two Lees didn't get to bowl in partnership - maybe on Friday?
