There were runs a plenty at Newlands where Western Province raced to 364 for 4 in 83 overs, Border reducing that lead to 293 as they closed on 71 for 2. Warren Wyngaard (132*) and Bob Homani (118) both hit their maiden first-class hundreds after WP batted first on a superb pitch, adding 234 for the third wicket before an early declaration left Border with a tricky 90 minutes before stumps.
Gauteng's decision to stick North West in at The Wanderers backfired as they closed the day on 105 for 5, 125 runs behind North West's 230 for 9 declared. Gauteng had fought back well after North West had eased to 126 for 1, taking eight wickets for 104 with Johnson Mafa grabbing 4 for 46. Two quick strikes by Frikkie Holtzhausen reduced Gauteng to 18 for 3, before Dumisa Makalima's 28-ball 33 led a mini recovery.
Zimbabwe Under-23s enjoyed one of the better days of their wretched campaign, but it still wasn't good enough to prevent Boland taking a strong command at Stellenbosch. Stuart Matsikenyeri's 53 was the backbone of Zimbabwe's 171 after they had won the toss, but in reply Boland raced to 113 for 0, with Gerhard Strydom leading the charge with 74 not out. Two late wickets gave Zimbabwe some comfort, Boland reaching 129 for 2 at stumps.
