ACB statement upon the death of Sir Donald Bradman

The Australian Cricket Board today extended its deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of Sir Donald Bradman who died in Adelaide yesterday aged 92.

ACB Chairman, Denis Rogers, said it was with great sadness that he learnt of the death of Sir Donald and that, despite his passing, his legacy to Australia and to cricket would remain unsurpassed.

"To Sir Donald's children John and Shirley, and his grandchildren, Greta, Tom and Nicholas, the Australian Cricket Board extends our deepest sympathies on the death of their greatly loved father and grandfather.

"Our grief at the passing of this great man cannot approach that of those who have known and loved him as intimately as his family.

"At this deeply sad time, I would like to say to them that the game of cricket and bonds that join the great cricketing fraternity are forever stronger because of the immense contributions their father and grandfather made to the game.

"Beyond his enormous contribution to cricket, the deeds of Sir Donald and his teams through depression and war have helped write the pages of this great country's history and forged our national identity and character.

"This is a timeless legacy that will forever endure, yet it can never fully repay the debt that Australia and world cricket owes to its greatest ever player and peerless administrator."
