Karachi, Dec 4: The Pakistan cricket selectors included hard-hitting opener
Shahid Afridi in the third and final Test squad against England which starts
here on Thursday.
A spokesman of the selection committee said Afridi was included after Qaisar
Abbas complained of dysentry. "We don't want to lose any gaps unplugged."
Afridi was not named in the 15 the selectors had announced on Sunday evening.
However, Afridi is unlikely to be named in the playing lineup as the selectors
are contemplating recalling opener Imran Nazir who carried the towels in the
first two Tests.
Meanwhile, Pakistan coach Javed Miandad said the Pakistan team would train on
Tuesday morning at the National Stadium. He added that he will have a first look
at the Test pitch the same day before he discusses with captain Moin Khan about
the likely combination.
However, Miandad said there would definitely be a result here because 90 overs
will be bowled in a day. "We could have won at Faisalabad had 30 odd overs not
been lost because of poor light."
Miandad said he was satisfied with the team's performance and particularly by
the batsmen in the second innings. "They (batsmen) must have left England
wondering about their options because they blasted their bowlers by scoring
almost at an average of four which is excellent in longer version of the game."
