A flawless Australian bowling performance restricted Israel to just 104 all out in Ashdod today. Gary Litinsky took 4 for 15 and Marc Lipsitz 3 for 25, as the Israel batting line up collapsed. Only Isaac Massil (31) managed any sort of resistance, although Steve Leigh scored an aggressive 25 at the top of the order. Daniel Kave was not out on 50, and Jonathan Weinstock made 33, as Australia reached their target for the loss of 2 wickets and with almost half their allotted overs still remaining.
Also in Ashdod, India finished their participation in the Maccabiah with their strongest performance yet, against the powerful South Africans. Their best efforts were not enough however, as a half century from Wayne Myers helped South Africa past their target of 150, for the loss of 7 wickets.
Western Province U18 player Ryan Kulber (5 for 22) bowled South Africa to their second comprehensive victory over Israel in the junior tournament. The Israelis had no answer to his left arm pace and were all out for just 47, with Gal Matz (18) top scoring. Mathew Rosen (21*) and Daniel Gursd (14*) knocked off the winning runs to give South Africa the win and guarantee their gold medal.
Australia kept their hopes of winning the silver medal alive, beating a spirited Great Britain side in a close encounter. Australia scored 229, with Great Britain replying with 212. The junior tournament comes to a close at Hadar Yosef tomorrow. Great Britain, still looking for the first win, meet the undefeated South Africans, whilst Israel and Australia clash with the silver medal at stake.
