AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES 1981-82

At Brisbane, January 17

15-Apr-1983
At Brisbane, January 17. West Indies won by five wickets with eight balls to spare in a wonderful finish. Australia were put in to bat by Richards, captaining West Indies instead of Lloyd, who was not feeling well although he played. Midway through Australia's innings a storm caused the match to be reduced to 40 overs, and Australia were indebted to Chappell's best innings since his 201 in Brisbane in the second Test against Pakistan in November for their useful total. West Indies soon lost both openers, and Richards played a rather desperate innings before the third wicket fell at 94. However, sensible batting by Gomes, with help from Bacchus and Lloyd, took West Indies to victory in front of a capacity crowd of 22,610 - the biggest at the 'Gabba since its new stands were finished.
Man of the Match: H. A. Gomes. Attendance: 22,610.
