Bangladesh: Gordon returns to Camp
Zahid Newaz in Dhaka
Everyone could understand something happened, but no one outside the
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) knew what it was. Whatever happened
between the BCB and its coaching director Gordon Greenidge, finally
the legendary West Indian joined the national team's conditioing camp
with a sigh of relief among the national cricketers.
It was known Greenidge remained absent in the camp going on at BKSP,
country's sports academy, since all the 29, out of primarily selected
30 players, joined the training for forthcoming World Cup where
Bangladesh will make their debuts.
There were many speculations as the BCB officials declined to say
anything while Gordon Greenidge repeatedly was saying "no comment"
whatever he was asked. Even when a journalist told him that the BCB
had informed that he is sick, Greenidge murmured the same phrase.
Finally, country's State Minister for Sports, Youth and Cultural
Affairs Obaidul Qader negotiated the matter and Greenidge joined the
camp at BKSP on Thursday night. On the same day, Qader had also a
visit to the BKSP when cameras were set up for coaching.
The minister, also a colleague of the BCB president Saber Hossain
Chowdhury in the cabinet, didn't deny that there were something wrong.
But he said everything is now okay and Greenidge joined training.
Several months back, Greenidge had also some problems with the BCB as
a misunderstanding developed between him and its president Saber
Hossain Chowdhury over some comments to press from both sides.
