After months of review and discussion, Barbados Cricket
Association (BCA) members have finally authorised the local body
to join the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Incorporated.
At an extraordinary general meeting at the Barbados Hilton Hotel
on Wednesday, the BCA membership also gave the go-ahead for the
subscription for two Class A voting shares.
The motion, given overwhelming support, was passed a few days
ahead of the first directors' meeting of the WICB Inc. in
Antigua on Monday.
The BCA, the last of the six regional associations to join the
WICB Inc., spent more than six months reviewing the proposed
Memorandum and Articles of Association.
There were also several concerns why the WICB, which
incorporated last November 28, wanted to incorporate in the
British Virgin Islands (BVI).
"The BCA is not satisfied that any or sufficient information has
been produced or given to justify that the incorporation in the
BVI is most suitable for the purpose intended," the BCA said in
a table of its comments and proposals.
It was also decided that the BCA's two current representatives
on the WICB, Tony Marshall and Joel Garner, should serve as
interim directors until the BCA's next annual general meeting in
July.
Other resolutions were passed at the meeting and the most
significant was that future members of the BCA board would now
serve for a two-year period instead of one.
However, of the eight other board members elected at the first
annual general meeting after this rule comes into effect, the
four with the least number of votes shoud hold office for one
year but would be eligible for relection for a further period of
two years.
