Cricket Australia today announced that the National Selection Panel (NSP) has chosen Western Warriors pace-man Brad Williams to replace the injured Glenn McGrath in the Australian squad for its three-match VB one-day international series against Bangladesh beginning in Cairns on Saturday (2 August).
Williams, who has played six one-day internationals for Australia and covered for McGrath during the early stages of the recent Travelex Tour of the West Indies, will depart Perth for Cairns this evening (31 July).
His last match in national colours was on 25 January during the 2002-03 VB Series against England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Upon learning of his selection Williams said: "obviously I am disappointed for Glenn because I know how much he enjoys playing cricket for Australia, but for me, these opportunities don't come around very often.
"I am thrilled that the selectors have seen fit to pick me, and should I get the opportunity to take part in any match during the series, I am going to grab it with both hands," he said.
