27-Jun-2000
The Canadian Cricket Association wishes to congratulate President
Saber Chowdhury, the Bangladesh Cricket Association, and the 130
million people of Bangladesh on their achievement of Test Match
status. We wish them every success in the future . As a former
Associate which has hosted an ICC International Event (as will
Kenya later this year), Canada looks forward to joining them at least
in the achievement of ODI status in the near future.
Canada of course will host the 2001 ICC Trophy competition in
Ontario. This is the largest cricket tournament in the world with
24 countries scheduled to compete. This will probably be the
last ICC Trophy Event of this size and format.
Participating nations have again been requested to also play some
warm-up pre-tournament games in the other major provincial
cricketing centres. A final decision is needed by September 15,
2000.
We also anticipate the continued on-field cricket support and
assistance of Kenya and Bangladesh, as Canadian cricket aspires
to move forward internationally. Congratulations again
Bangladesh and we wish Kenya outstanding success in their staging
of the ICC Knockout later this year.
