Come back kids CCC wins SLC Super 8 Crown

Colombo Cricket Club (CCC) after a drought of 11 years won Sri Lanka Cricket's coveted Premier Division championship.
CCC last won the championship, known as Sara Trophy then, in 1995/96. This year CCC won the trophy in convincing style by defeating their Maitland Crescent neighbors SSC by 387 runs in their last league match of the season. SSC who went into the match with an outside chance of becoming the champions were comprehensively outplayed by a highly motivated CCC outfit led by left arm leggie Nisitha Rupasinghe. The highlight of the CCC season was their ability to eke out outright wins after losing on the 1st innings. On four occasions (45% of the total matches) the young CCC outfit was able to come from behind and win their matches. The most memorable being the come from behind win against NCC. In that particular match CCC were shot out for 68 runs in their 1st essay and conceded a lead of over 200 runs on the 1st innings but came back and turned tables on NCC. Tharindu Mendis, Nisal Randhika & D.K.Ranaweera carried CCC's batting during the season by getting more than 500 runs each. Former Sri Lankan left arm pacie Sujeewa de Silva led the bowling front with a sterling effort that netted him a haul of 44 wickets. As the champions, CCC will receive Rs.1 million for their efforts.
Colts Cricket Club secured the runner up position of the Premier championship by chaulking an outright win in their last match against Bloomfield C & AC. Colts rode into contention with an incredible come from behind victory in their penultimate match against eventual 3rd place team SSC. In that match, SSC needing a mere 107 to win the match were bowled out 11 runs short of the target by an inspired Colts attack led by young Amila Prasad. Colts C.C. will receive Rs.750,000 for ending as the runner up.
