Derbyshire name new chief executive

Derbyshire have named Tom Sears as their new chief executive. John Smedley, his predecessor, left at the end of September after a period of sick leave which was believed to be brought on by stress.

Sears is currently the commercial director for Worcestershire, where he has been responsible for all commercial and marketing since he took over four years ago. "This is a very exciting opportunity for me to join and lead Derbyshire to take full advantage and benefit from the wonderful new development at the club," he said.

"Tom has extensive and successful experience of marketing and communication in the sports business," said Trevor Bowring, the Derbyshire chairman, "and, in partnership with David Houghton [Derbyshire's coach] will lead and take the club forward to a bright future." Sears will start in his new job in February next year.
