Matthew Elliott has spoken about his move to South Australia after 13 years with Victoria. He denied that money was his primary reason for leaving, saying that he was more interested in seeking a new beginning.
"For people to think that I've gone for money, I'm telling them straight out it's not right, it's wrong," Elliott told The Age. "There is no under-the-table deal. I am not being paid as an assistant coach. I am disappointed in a few people.
"I got to the end of last year and I thought I had pretty much done everything I set out to do when I was starting. I was a bit frustrated by a few things and felt like it was a good time to move. I had a meeting with Cricket Victoria before I left for England [to play for Glamorgan]. The organisation had always been supportive before but time comes to leave and I see a side I didn't expect to see and that was pretty disappointing.
"I said to them, `It's not you guys, it's me seeking new challenges.' But that wasn't good enough. [...] Victorian cricket is a bit like Pakistan; there's always got to be drama."
