England v West Indies

Richard Hobson
15-Apr-2005
At Nottingham, June 27. West Indies won by seven wickets. West Indies 6 pts. Toss: West Indies. One-day international debut: G. O. Jones.
England collapsed to their lowest total in 15 one-day internationals at Trent Bridge, against an attack boasting just 52 appearances between them before this game. While conditions were hardly ideal for batting, they should not have been unfamiliar to a home side raised on spring-green seaming tracks. After both openers went inside the first three overs, the middle order failed to build on a stand of 82 in 15 overs between Jones and Strauss. Bravo and Rampaul jagged the ball around at medium-pace and profited from errors. A total of around 200 might have been enough on this pitch; instead, with most guns blazing, England were dismissed with nearly 12 overs left, their last eight falling for 63. Their early fielding matched their batting: Gayle and Chanderpaul were both reprieved in the slips against the new ball. Harmison bowled fierily, but West Indies could afford to see him out of the attack and pick off runs against the others.
Man of the Match: D. J. J. Bravo. Attendance: 15,358; receipts £454,357.
