Derbyshire's former membership secretary has been given an eight-month jail sentence after being found guilty of having with child pornography on his home and work computers.
John Grainger, 61, of Alvaston, who had at one time been the club's IT manager, possessed 246 indecent images, including 16 video files, Derby Crown Court heard on Monday.
Police raided Grainger's home and workplace after he had used a credit card to subscribe to an illicit website. When they analysed his computer they found that the images had been created between April 21, 2000, and January 8 last year.
The court heard that after making various excuses to play down his involvement during questioning, Grainger eventually admitted to a number of charges of making, possessing and distributing the images. Since he had tried initially to avoid admitting what he had done, he will be subject to a three-year extended licence when he is released from prison. He will also be treated on a sex-offenders' programme and be on the sex-offenders' register for ten years.
Derby magistrates had convicted Grainger of two charges of gross indecency with a child in 1981. The three-month jail sentence imposed then was suspended for two years.
