Sunil Gavaskar has been asked to raise a side to participate in a tournament celebrating the centenary of the Karachi City Cricket Association in January next year - and organisers are confident not only that he will agree to their request, but that he might play in the match as well.
"Gavaskar is well known to us and has been in touch with us since coming to Pakistan for the first time in 1977," said Munir Hussain, president of the KCCA. "We have asked him to help us by convincing the Indian Sports Ministry to allow the Indian team to play in our tournament; or else he should raise an Indian eleven, including former and some present cricketers for the triangular series."
Hussain went on to explain that Gavaskar had enough links with Indian and Pakistan players to be able to fulfil the request. "If he can bring an Indian eleven team, it would be a big boost for our centenary celebration triangular tournament."
