Ground improvement project underway

A £200,000 ground improvement project is well underway at Grace Road

A £200,000 ground improvement project is well underway at Grace Road.
Contractors moved in before Christmas to start work on a completely new paved car park surface at the Bennett End of the ground.
The area, half grass and half stone, was unsuitable for the club's requirements for 12 months usage. But due to the need to protect all the trees in the area, it was a planning condition that individual pavers had to be used to allow water to drain through the surface in the proximity of the trees.
Work, which is ahead of schedule, is expected to be completed by 31st March and talks are ongoing with the Council Planning Officers regarding the provision of some illumination to the area.
Kevin Hill, Leicestershire's general manager said: "The new car park surface will be a major addition to the facilities at Grace Road, and we are indebted to Sport England who has contributed in excess of £67,000 to the cost. The balance, estimated at up to £140,000, has been committed to the club by our Honorary Life President, Trevor Bennett.
"Trevor has been a most generous benefactor to the club for many years, and this is yet another tremendous gesture on his part. In the past he has personally contributed towards the costs of building the Indoor School and the provision of the present practice area adjoining the ground. The club is extremely grateful to Trevor for his continued support. Without his help it just would not have been possible."
A new set of gates, also funded by Trevor Bennett, will be installed at the entrance to the car park.
