I managed to catch up with a very busy Patrick Farhart, Hampshire's popular Australian physio to discuss the fitness situation of the Hampshire cricketers just two weeks before the start of the new season.

Paddy as he is affectionately known as, was upbeat about the progress made by the boys who had problems either last season, or during the winter months.

Alex Morris who in the 2002 season struggled with back problems and was unable to bowl for much of it, is making very good progress. The remedial work he is doing with bowling coach Bruce Reid is working well. He is suffering no pain and is slowly increasing his speed, and increasing his bowling stints.

Alan Mullally had rib surgery four months ago. He is now bowling normally, and working on more technical type work with Bruce Reid, to ensure that the problem does not re-occur. "I am very happy with Alan's fitness" said Paddy.

Chris Tremlett Missed most of the latter end of the Hampshire season, but recovered well during the Australian summer with the England Academy. He is currently suffering with some shin soreness but should be available for next weeks trial/pre-season friendly matches.

Charlie van der Gucht has made amazing progress following his horrific road accident two years ago. He worked well in Australia, and shows no signs of any problems.

Paddy attended the meeting with Wasim Akram in the small hours of Wednesday morning in London to assess his fitness. "I was both impressed with his fitness level, and his enthusiasm for the task ahead" said Paddy.

All the remaining members of Hampshire squad are fit and raring to go.
