Victoria romped to a comprehensive 96-run win against Tasmania at the Junction Oval in Melbourne after putting up 9 for 277. The total was built around Brad Hodge's rapid 108, which came off just 111 balls. He was supported by Jon Moss, who was dropped three times on the way to a chancy 60. Apart from Brett Geeves, who took 5 for 45, all the Tasmanian bowlers went for plenty of runs.
Hodge's seventh hundred in the domestic one-day competition came after Victoria were in trouble at 4 for 151. He hauled them back to safety before becoming Geeves's third victim.
Tasmania collapsed after Travis Birt and Michael Dighton, their openers, put on 82 in 11.5 overs. Both scored forties, as did Michael Bevan. But after Ian Harvey and Michael Lewis removed the openers, Brad Knowles struck twice to leave Tasmania reeling at 4 for 108. Two run-outs followed, and then Cameron White prised out four wickets in quick succession. He removed Bevan, who battled to 41 (7 for 167) and then dismissed the last three batsmen in nine balls as Tasmania were bowled out for 181.
