India v South Africa, 2005-06

India v South Africa, 2005-06

15-Apr-2006

At Bangalore, November 19, 2005 (day/night). India won by six wickets. Toss: India.
South Africa's unbeaten run hit the buffers with a convincing defeat on a slow, turning pitch, although the initial damage was done by the left-arm seamer Pathan, whose three quick wickets included the dangerous Kallis, swishing at one that seamed away late. Then the spinners took over, and it took uncharacteristically restrained knocks from Kemp and Pollock to raise even a modest total. In particular, the slow left-armer Kartik got the ball to bite and conceded just 16 runs in his ten overs. India started slowly, managing only nine in the first seven overs and then losing Tendulkar, but the result was never in much doubt, despite some spirited fielding, especially from Ontong who conjured two run-outs from square leg. A typically robust innings from Sehwag, who cracked 11 fours from only 62 balls, took India home with more than 14 overs to spare.
Man of the Match: I. K. Pathan.
