Zee TV's claims ridiculous: ICC chief
International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive David Richards has
dismissed Zee TV's remarks of 'racial motives' on the awarding of
television rights to World Sports Group (WSG) and News Corp as
'ridiculous.' In an interview to a TV programme, Richards said the
decision to go with the WSG and News Corp was taken on commercial
grounds.
On Zee TV's charge, Richards said ""I do not want to comment on Zee
TV's ridiculous remarks, I think what we need to say very clearly is
that the executive board took a decision on commercial grounds and
commercial grounds only. He added "it is demonstrably untrue. It is an
organisation made up of people from all over the world of cricket
from different cultures and backgrounds".
Asked on the possibility of rival cricket tours involving the Asian
countries, Richards said "there is no indication of anything like that
coming through the boards that make up ICC - India, Pakistan, Sri
Lanka and now Bangladesh." The reaction of Zee that the ICC decision
to award telecast rights for the two World Cups was along racial lines
came after they lost out in their bid.
