Leicestershire have announced that former player and coach Jack Birkenshaw has left the club by mutual consent.

Having played in the team that won the County Championship in 1975 Birkenshaw was then manager and coach of the title winning sides of 1996 and 1998. But last season - his benefit year - he was replaced as Head Coach by Phil Whitticase and became coaching consultant, concentrating on the recruitment and development of young players.
He signed a one year contract but now, by mutual agreement this has not been renewed. Kevin Hill, Leicestershire's general manager said: "Jack's contribution to Leicestershire's success as a player, coach and manager has been immense. He has had a long and distinguished career with the club, and everyone at Grace Road wishes him every success in the future."
Birkenshaw said: "I have enjoyed a long and happy career at Leicestershire spanning many years, but I felt the time had come for me to consider a number of options regarding my future. I have made so many friends and acquaintances and I hope those friendships will continue for many years to come.I wish the club every success in the future."
Birkenshaw played 420 matches for Leicestershire scoring more than 11,000 runs and taking 908 wickets with his off-spin bowling.
