The technical committee of the ICC Women's World Cup 2009 has given the go-ahead for Marizanne Kapp to replace Kirsty Thompson in the South African squad. The confirmation was conveyed to Cricket South Africa on behalf of the committee on Monday evening.
Kapp, the uncapped 19-year-old allrounder from Port Elizabeth, was allowed to be Thompson's substitute on medical grounds after the 20-year-old fast bowler suffered stress fractures in her lower back during a provisional match.
South Africa will be up against defending champions and hosts Australia, New Zealand and West Indies in Group A of the tournament, which runs from March 7-22 in Australia, and will open their campaign against the West Indies in Newcastle on March 8.
