Umpire Graham Burgess had already said "not out" and was amazed to see Kendall stroll off the ground.
The sun drenched crowd rose in a prolonged round of applause, joined by square leg umpire David Shepherd, and the whole Northamptonshire fielding side.
Kendall who had scored 201 in the previous innings against Sussex was capped last week, and was looking for his third century of the season, having alraedy passed 1,000 county championship runs.
