Kent missed out on a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table after Hampshire's tailenders defied them at Canterbury, finishing on 241 for 8 after being set a target of 307. Hampshire made a good start to their chase, Sean Ervine (69) and John Crawley (46) putting on 95 for the second wicket, but Simon Cook captured three middle-order wickets to swing the game in kent's favour, and a home win grew more likely when Andrew Hall bowled Dimitri Mascarenhas for six. But Nic Pothas held out for 51 balls for 15 as Hampshire held on.
A career-best 232 from David Hussey put Nottinghamshire in control after two days of their match against Warwickshire at Trent Bridge. Resuming on 194 for 4, Chris Read was soon dismissed for 89, but then Hussey cut loose, and aided by Mark Ealham (36) and Graeme Swann (39) guided Nottinghamshire to 514 and a first-innings lead of 358. Second time round Warwickshire again struggled, raching 107 for 3 by the close, still 241 runs in arrears.

Points Table
The rain which blighted the first two days consigned this match to a draw, and the few who turned up had their minds elsewhere and their ears close to their radios. Rather than try to engineer a result with contrived declarations, Leicestershire batted on to make 443, a lead of 128, with Dinesh Mongia making 164 and HD Ackerman 61. Both fell to Gareth Breese, who finished with 5 for 91. The only way Durham could lose was by losing quick wickets, but Michael Hussey followed his first innings 146 with another half century as the game petered out in a draw.
