Racking up 276 runs in their batting effort, Madhya Pradesh then
bowled Vidarbha out to win their Ranji Trophy one-day match at Udaipur
on Friday.
Put in to bat by their opponents, Madhya Pradesh achieved their total
largely due to a string of small but significant scores by their
batsmen. Opener Naman Ojha made 45 off 67 balls, with seven fours, and
set the tone for the entire innings.
The top-scorer for Madhya Pradesh was Devendrasingh Bundela, who made
56 off 69 balls. His innings consisted largely of craftily run
singles, and he hit only four fours in his knock. Bundela fell in the
39th over, but the tail hit some lusty blows to propel the total to
276/8 in 50 overs.
Vidarbha started off slowly, with 99 coming off 25.2 overs. Barring
opener Amit Deshpande's 40 and Rahul Jadhav's 42, none of the batsmen
could come good, and Vidarbha were bowled out for 204 to give Madhya
Pradesh a 72-run victory.
