Malaysia and Lanka triumph: U-17 Asia Cup

Karachi, July 16: Malaysia started their campaign in the inaugural Under-17 Asia Cup Cricket tournament on a victorious note when they downed Singapore by 48 runs at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium here on Sunday.
Batting first after winning the toss, Malaysia made 240 for four in their allotted 45 overs with Satguna Vickneswaran hitting 57 off 44 balls.
Branhvso Indran contributed 56 and was involved in a third wicket partnership of 98 with Vickneswaran after openers Hairul Amiruddin (38) and Shanmugam Sathiswaran (36) had provided a fine start of 86.
Singapore, in reply, were all out for 192 in 39.5 overs despite Zeeshan Raza's 50 off 43 deliveries.
Off-spinner Peter Chong captured four for 28 in eight overs.

Sri Lanka trounce Saudi Arabia: Sri Lanka chalked up their second win of the tournament when they trounced Saudi Arabia by 173 runs at the Makli Cricket Ground in Thatta.
Sri Lanka, who chose to bat first, made 231 in 44.5 overs with four of their batsmen being run out. Skipper Jehan Jayasuriya top-scored with 49 while wayward bowling from the Saudis resulted in 31 wides as the extras totalled 54.
Saudi Arabia, however, found the going extremely tough once they had their first three wickets while the total remained stationary on five. The Saudis eventually were sent packing for just 58 in 20.4 overs with only opener Basit Butt (13) entering double figures.
Medium-pacer Umesh Wijesiriwardena was the wrecker-in-chief as he claimed five for 15 in four overs.
