Former Australian coach Geoff Marsh, the consultant for the Board of
Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has said that his priority was to
coach the coaches in India.
Marsh, in Bangalore on a day's visit, was all praise for the available
talent in the country and said it was good that everything is
centralised in respect of the national academy with good facilities.
The Australian, who was appointed consultant by the BCCI recently when
New Zealander John Wright was selected as the coach of the senior
team, said "I will be holding a coaches seminar in Bangalore in
February next year."
Marsh will be holding discussions with BCCI officials in Mumbai to
finalise the changes in the domestic cricket calender. During the
meeting, Marsh said, he would discuss and finalise matters relating to
the state of the pitches in India and umpiring standards.
The former Australian opening batsman said "please do not expect
results overnight. I propose to produce results in the next 12
months."
Marsh, 40, said he had discussions with John Wright in Mumbai on the
strengths and weaknesses of the Indian team. He explained that since
Wright is touring with the senior team, he would concentrate on the
India 'A' and other junior level cricket in India.
The boys in India are talented and they need to be picked at the right
time for the right coaching, Marsh said, adding that he plans to spend
12 weeks in an year and would extend the periodicity at the behest of
the BCCI.
