BCB chief wants Shakib to play Asia Cup
Hours after Shakib Al Hasan said that a finger surgery is imminent ahead of next month's Asia Cup, BCB chief Nazmul Hassan said he preferred the allrounder to play the Asia Cup and instead miss the Zimbabwe series in October.
"He will need six weeks to recover from the surgery but we cannot even think of playing without him [in the Asia Cup]," Hassan said. "The operation could either be before or after the Asia Cup, or it could be during the Zimbabwe series. Maybe we could try some new faces during the Zimbabwe series but not the Asia Cup which will be a tough campaign. But we still have time to discuss it with Shakib."
The Asia Cup is scheduled to begin on September 15 and a surgery before that would make Shakib miss the tournament because of the rest he has been advised. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, are due to tour in October. West Indies will then play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is in Bangladesh from November 22 to December 22.
