New Zealand: Riccarton upset

High School Old Boys advanced to the final and holder Riccarton was
eliminated when the semi-finals of the WestpacTrust Cup one-day
cricket competition were played at Hagley Oval.
Both matches ended in subdued fashion, with the chasing side falling
well short. Old Boys beat top qualifier St Albans by 74 runs, and
Riccarton lost to Lancaster Park-Woolston by 54 runs yesterday.
In Sunday's preliminary final St Albans will use its second life
against Park-Woolston, with the winner advancing to the final.
Old Boys made the running from the start, with Ben Yock and Jeremy
Innes sharing an opening stand of 92 runs. There was a productive
partnership at the finish, too, as Sam Martin and Regan Mitchell
rattled on 48 for the ninth wicket.
Medium-pacers Anton Trist and Danny Baffsky made inroads into the Old
Boys' middle and lower order batting. They were also to be among the
few St Albans players to show much resistance with the bat.
Hamish Anderson returned the best figures of the Old Boys bowlers.
There was precious little batting of substance across the oval.
Park-Woolston suffered two recessions in its innings before John
Quinn and Wade Cornelius plundered 48 runs in 28min for the last
wicket.
Cornelius, with strong support from fellow seamer Anthony Timpson,
then caused havoc among Riccarton's batsmen. At 30 for five,
Riccarton's only hope was Canterbury Shell Cup hero Gary Stead.
When he became the first of four victims of Andrew Richardson the
outcome was inevitable.
