The first two days of the second Test between England and New
Zealand beginning at Lord's on Thursday are sold out, which must
come as a relief to the England and Wales Cricket Board.
New Zealand were regarded by the ECB's critics as too low-key
opposition following the blazing publicity accorded to the World
Cup. But the London public are clearly prepared to pay between
L24 and L38 to watch them and Saturday is almost sold out too,
with only the most expensive tickets still available.
Channel 4 begin their life as Test match terrestrial broadcasters
on Thursday and Glamorgan coach Duncan Fletcher, who takes over
the England job in October, will surely assess his future charges
on television. With Glamorgan having a week off, Fletcher is on
holiday in Scotland, where he is likely to have a TV close at
hand.
