South Africa v India, 2010-11

Wisden's review of the third ODI, South Africa v India, 2010-11

15-Apr-2011
At Cape Town, January 18, 2011 (day/night). India won by two wickets. Toss: South Africa. Oneday international debut: F. du Plessis.
India crashed to 93 for five in response to a modest total of 220, and looked out of the contest. They were dragged back into it by Raina and Yusuf Pathan, who added 75 for the sixth wicket, and even moved from underdogs to favourites when Pathan launched Botha for three straight sixes in four balls in the 30th over. But Morkel and Steyn claimed two quick wickets, including Pathan slicing to third man, and it was left to the tail to find another 39 runs. They did not inspire confidence against a fired-up pace attack on an uneven and two-paced surface, but Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan played and missed to great effect against the good balls; Zaheer made enough contact to collect two fours, while Harbhajan smashed two timely off-side sixes, off Parnell and Morkel. It was just enough to squeak the visitors home. Earlier, South Africa had suffered their own early wobble to 90 for four before a cool, highly impressive 60 from the debutant Faf du Plessis restored order during a partnership of 110 with Duminy.
Man of the Match: Y. K. Pathan.
