The ICC today confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) has lodged an Appeal against the decision of yesterday's meeting of the Event Technical Committee (ETC), on the interpretation of clause 21.9.1 of the Playing Conditions of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003.
Upon receipt of the BCCSL's notice of Appeal this morning, ICC Legal Counsel Urvasi Naidoo appointed Justice Ahmed Ebrahim to act as ICC Appeals Commissioner.
The process for conducting a hearing is left entirely at the discretion of the Appeals Commissioner. In this instance, Justice Ebrahim will make his decision based on written submissions provided to him by the ICC Event Technical Committee and the BCCSL.
At the conclusion of the hearing, Justice Ebrahim will provide a written decision to ICC Legal Counsel, which will then be forwarded to the Sri Lanka team, the Event Technical Committee and the ICC Chief Executive. The decision of the Appeals Commissioner will be final and binding.
Justice Ebrahim's decision will be made public, via email media release and posting on the CWC2003 Media Information Service. It is expected no sooner that 21:00 hours, South African time, today.
Biography: Justice Ahmed Ebrahim
Justice Ahmed Ebrahim was called to the English Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1962 and appointed Supreme Court Justice of Zimbabwe in 1990. He was formerly Director of Public Prosecutions in Zimbabwe.
He has 32 years experience in cricket administration at club, provincial and national level, including serving as Zimbabwe Cricket Union Disciplinary Committee Chairman and Zimbabwe Cricket Union Coaching Committee Chairman.
He was a member of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003 Contracts Committee and also served as a member of the ICC panel of international Match Referees.
