Pio Fibre Glass supports Old Mazenodians SC
Old Mazenodians SC who will be playing in the division two of the
BCCSL cricket tournament will get a professional touch when Pio Fibre
Glass Industries sponsor them during the current season.
The sponsorship package is over Rs. 75,000 and will no doubt inspire
the club which has been faring prominently and produced some
promising cricketers in the past.
Each player will be paid a sum of Rs. 500 each for a match including
the reserves who will get half of the sum.
The Mazenodians have a proud history of scoccer and cricket.Since
scrapping cricket in the mid 1950s due to some reasons, cricket was
reinstated in the early 80s with Sri Lanka gaining full test status.
"The reason for seeking sponsorship for the Sports Club is essential
to retain talented cricketers, because as soon as the boys leave
school they have the tendency to join other clubs. The school has an
abundance of talent and it is important that they join the OMSC and
continue the trend." said Vernon Senanayake the present coach and the
live wire of the club.
The Proprietor of Pio Fibre Glass Industries H.Alexander Perera was
extremely pleased to sponsor the team and said that he was keen in
seeing the team playing in the division one tournament soon.
The Old Mazenodians SC played in the BCCSL division three in 1993 and
three years later became champions.
