Sri Lanka v West Indies 1999-2000

At Sharjah, October 17 (day/night)

15-Apr-2001
At Sharjah, October 17 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by nine wickets. Toss: West Indies.
After losing their previous match by more runs than ever before, West Indies ensured an unwelcome symmetry by losing this one by a record number of wickets. The openers departed quickly, but Hinds, first with Lara (run out at the non-striker's end by a direct hit from Muralitharan at short third man) and then Chanderpaul, effected a slow recovery. At 126 for three in the 41st over, they needed to accelerate. But the search for runs brought only wickets, the last seven falling for 19. Three went to Muralitharan, who bamboozled the lower order. Jayasuriya then came out with all guns blazing, hitting Dillon for two sixes and a four in four balls. He faced only 80 deliveries for his 88, which took him past 5,000 runs in one-day internationals.
Man of the Match: S. T. Jayasuriya.
