President Confers special honours on Sri Lankan Cricketers

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga conferred special honours to the World Cup winning Sri Lanka cricket team at a special ceremony held last evening at Temple Trees.

Sri Lanka skipper Arjuna Ranatunga and cricket manager Duleep Mendis were conferred the honour of Deshamanya, while Australian coach Davenall Whatmore received the Sri Lanka Ramya.

The rest of the team - Aravinda de Silva, Roshan Mahanama, Hashan Tillekeratne, Asanka Gurusinha, Sanath Jayasuriya, Muttiah Muralitharan, Pramodya Wickremasinghe, Chaminda Vaas, Ravindra Pushpakumara, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Kumara Dharmasena, Marvan Atapattu and Upul Chandana all received the Deshabandu award.
