Statement by ICC Match Referee Clive Lloyd following a hearing under the ICC Code of Conduct

A charge was brought under the ICC Code of Conduct by the Australian team manager Steve Bernard on behalf of one of his players, Adam Gilchrist

A charge was brought under the ICC Code of Conduct by the Australian team manager Steve Bernard on behalf of one of his players, Adam Gilchrist. This related to a Level 3 offence against the Pakistan player Rashid Latif.
The charge amounted to the alleged use of language that offends or vilifies on the basis of another person's race or colour.
Mr Latif pleaded not guilty and denied the allegations.
I took into account representations from both parties as well as video evidence provided by the Australian Cricket Board.
My finding was that, taken it its entirety, there was not sufficient evidence to prove the allegations. Accordingly, Mr Latif is exonerated.
Statement ends
Note: Both players were given the option of making a statement to the media. Latif declined, but Gilchrist read out a brief statement in which he said he was entirely satisfied with ICC procedures at the hearing and happily accepted the finding.
