Sweeping changes in Dutch Cricket
The general meeting of the Dutch Cricket Association (KNCB) of 30
November 1996 approved plans for sweeping changes in Dutch
cricket. The league setup will be reorganized in such a way that
now time is available to introduce 2 day matches on a regional
basis.
When the Dutch got into the world cup (and made some impression)
it was finally realized that more than just "one day games" was
necessary to reach a higher level in cricket. Last year saw the
introduction of the first grass wickets. Now the two day game is
introduced. This combination, combined with the many overseas
"first class players" must be a start to lift the game in the
Netherlands.
If one want to succeed three problems remain. One is money. The
second is a healthy attitude towards the "lower" cricket and
youth. And the third is stamina. It takes blood sweat and tears
to bring our cricket on a higher level. But it is most certainly
worth to try.
